The Obah family teaching children about gardening

Our Story

Starting off as young college students while dynamically raising young children, my husband Herbert and I noticed the yearly Botany class would plant the remaining plants behind our campus housing in the backyard.

As the weeks went by with nobody to tend to the "botany garden," my toddlers and I would go out and water whatever looked thirsty until our eldest child noticed a strawberry — bright, red and shimmering; perfectly round and asking to be plucked.

We sliced up that strawberry and she placed it into her morning oatmeal. She was in awe that she could find perfect food in her own backyard. And that it was delicious! From that day on she vowed to become a farmer.

After years of studying agriculture, our daughter Rasheeri decided to become a market gardener. And so unto us, Obah Gardens was born — with the hopes that many people and their families would find joy and satisfaction from the produce grown in our quiet gardens and marvel at the taste of natural perfection.
